Letters to editor

What ever happened to “We the People…”? What happened to individual God given rights and freedoms? What happened to bottom up government of the people, by the people, for the people?

As the Progressive / Socialist movement sweeps across this country it feels like I/we no longer have a voice. I, meaning the individual, the individual is the largest minority. As we take are marching orders from a top down, faceless, centralized government, we the people no longer have a seat at the table.

With ever increasing mandates, legislation, closed door meetings, in the name of the greater good, it’s difficult to figure out which end is up or what is going on within government. By the time we the people hear about change it’s already been done.

In an age of information overload, complicated legislation, mandates, etc. it’s no wonder people feel overwhelmed, confused and powerless. I believe it’s on purpose. Thomas Jefferson believed that our legal system and form of government should be designed so that the common man could comprehend it. There’s nothing I comprehend about the Progressive Movement as it relates to the Constitution or the American way of life.

I am wondering what rights have been lost? A simple top 10 would suffice.

I like how you mention near the end of your letter that "There’s nothing I comprehend about the Progressive Movement" because it is clear you don't understand the Progressive Movement.

Try reading Wikipedia's Progressivism definitions, which include things like "Middle class and reformist in nature, it arose as a response to the vast changes brought by modernization such as the growth of large corporations, pollution and rampant corruption in American politics." And "In the 21st century, a movement that identifies as progressive is 'a social or political movement that aims to represent the interests of ordinary people through political change and the support of government actions'."

Spot on target. I think many good people know it but are standing tall and admitting we are in a downward spiral as far as our rights disappearing for the good of the nation. Nowhere in the Constitution does it give any part of the government to take away our rights for any reason.
