I am writing to express my support for the aspirations of Sammy’s Place, an organization that supports people with disabilities and their families. Sammy’s Place consists of a small group of our coastal neighbors with full hearts and a grand vision. They hope to create a community in Nehalem that would provide affordable housing, employment, sustainable agriculture and a venue for activities and events. What makes their dream even more special is that this co-housing and environmentally sustainable community would be specifically for individuals with disabilities, their families and their allies. Sammy’s Place is putting their values of compassion and inclusivity into action by uniting people with different and diverse bodies and abilities to live and work together.
Seems to me that this vision is needed more now than ever.
Anger and fear has saturated us. Our world is too fractured and aggressive. The vision of Sammy’s Place is an antidote to this current situation.
As we bring in this new year, let’s all support the inspiration that is Sammy’s Place. This is something incredibly special. As a resident of Nehalem, I would feel privileged to call Sammy’s Place my neighbor.
