It was a very challenging but rewarding week at all six locations of the Tillamook County Library! Our first week of Curbside Pickup was met with much enthusiasm and praise from our patrons. Everyone was so happy to get new library materials to take home. Our research on how to begin to provide library service while keeping our patrons and our staff safe has paid off. In case you missed it, you can now call your favorite Tillamook County Library and schedule a time to pick up your requested library materials. Curbside Pickup will be provided Monday through Friday, from 2 – 5 p.m.
This week, we are introducing a modified Bookmobile schedule…without the Bookmobile! Because it is impossible to socially distance on the Bookmobile with its narrow aisle, we will just be making book drops using our white Ford courier van. While we cannot currently visit all of the stops on our mobile route, we have contacted the patrons we feel would benefit most from a book drop at their location. But rest assured, eventually the big blue bus will be back on the road again!
Another exciting bit of news…the library has decided to start an e-newsletter that you can receive though email. In this time of uncertainty, where decisions are being made nearly every day that affect the way we provide library service, we decided the fastest way to get you important information is through an electronic form of our popular newsletter. If you would like to be added to this mailing list, an email to email@example.com is one way to get your name added. You can always opt out later, and of course, we will never sell or give your email to anyone else.
If you have children at home with voracious appetites for books, we can help you out! Since picking out youth picture books is often a task best accomplished by browsing the shelves, and since you can’t come into the library right now, we can do the browsing for you. We are putting together Book Bundles that include bunches of books on the same topic. So if your little one is into dinosaurs and puppies right now, just let us know and we’ll put together a Book Bundle with dinosaur and puppy books! Call the library to arrange a curbside pickup time.
Children aren’t the only patrons who like to browse for their book selections. Many adults like to peruse the library book shelves until they find a title that jumps out at them. So how do you pick out your books when the library is closed? We have an excellent database called Novelist. It is the perfect way for book lovers to find their next great read. Access Novelist by going to our website at www.tillabook.org, then click on the e-resources tab, then databases, then book recommendations, and finally, select Novelist. Once you get into this site, you will see so many options for how to find your perfect book. You can filter the search so you only see the particular genre you are interested in. You can also limit your query to those that have won awards. One favorite feature of Novelist is “read-alikes”. All you do it enter the title of a book you previously enjoyed, and Novelist automatically puts together a list of similar books. You can even create a free login so you can save lists of books you would like to read.
Hope you all have a safe week and take the time to sit down and read a book or two!
