Gus Peterson, 84, formally of Cloverdale, passed away at the VA Hospital in Mnpls MN. Born 01/10/1935 in Ladysmith WI.
He served in the Army and graduated in Animal Husbandry from UWRF. He married Lois Luethi on 12/19/1955 while home on a 3 day military leave. They moved from Birnamwood WI to Cloverdale OR in 1980, owning Peterson Insurance and The Shellgame.
Gus was a wonderful carpenter and did contracting.He was very active in the community, serving on the Tillamook Water Board. He flipped pancakes for 20 years with the Lion’s Club. His eyes were donated for research to the Lion’s Gift of Sight, and his body to research. He supported education events and 4-H. For years he was ‘Santa’s Helper’ with the kids, and helped decorate Cloverdale for Christmas.
He was proud to serve in the US Army for this country that he loved. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing and having coffee with friends.
Gus is survived by daughters Roberta Bierman (Dan LaForge) and Ruby Eileen Benson (Ray Schlosser); Grandchildren Francis (Amber) Bierman, Matthew Bierman, Luke (Jasmine) Bierman and Clint Bierman (Anya); and Great Grandson Evan. Also Ian (Kevin) LaForge, Joe LaForge, Tanya Aby (Lexi and Adrian), Troy Schlosser and Courtney (Jordan) Giedd family.
Survived also by siblings Rosemary, Dean and Bruce and their spouses; his seven foster cats and many dear friends.He was preceded in death by Lois, his Wife of 59 yrs; Great Grandson Owen; several brothers and sisters; brother and sister in-laws and nieces.
Celebration of Life arrangements are pending. Final resting place will be at Northern WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner WI
