CLOVERDALE - The Nestucca School District board members came to a decision last week on which candidate for superintendent would fill the position in the wake of current superintendent Bob Simonson's retirement. After three public forums and many meetings, Connie Kennedy, current assistant superintendent of the Hood River School District, has been appointed as superintendent of the Nestucca School District.
Kennedy will begin her duties as superintendent this July 1.
"The district is very pleased with the selection of Connie," said Simonson. "Board members were impressed with her two interviews with the district and with the visit to her school district. She is well thought of in Hood River and while happy for her, they are sad to see her go."
As previously reported by the Headlight-Herald, Kennedy has also worked as an activity director and director of discipline as well as leading conflict mediation programs and vice principal in charge of curriculum.
"Educators are in a powerful position to mold a child's life," said Kennedy at her public forum meeting two weeks ago. "I'll know when I've done my job right when I see kids engaged in a lesson, and see evidence that these kids are safe, respectful and responsible."
