TAPA’s performance of The Odd Couple- a female version- was worth the special trip to Tillamook on a recent Friday night. I met friends Ted Newton and Ruby Madrona at Sassy’s Express for vegan Thai beforehand. I had a tofu stir-fry in peanut sauce; it was delicious. Our mutual friend, Rachael Cardwell, of Pacific City, was brilliant in a supporting role. Similar talent was on display by Kelli McMellon who took on a Brooklyn accent for her supporting role in the show. Watch this space for details of TAPA’s upcoming performance of Arsenic and Old Lace. Thanks to Gordon McGraw for word that some of the lowest tides of the year are expected this week. A low tide of -2.14 occurs Wednesday around 8 a.m. The lowest at -2.24 happens about 8:45 a.m. on Thursday with a -2.09 occurring around 9:30 a.m. on Friday. In Neskowin, the “Ghost Forest” usually becomes exposed during these events. It’s a group of Sitka spruce stumps that became buried when the coastline dropped after an earthquake several thousand years ago.
If you or your out of town visitors go exploring or clamming at low tide, there are precautions to be aware of. Bear in mind that because outcroppings are rarely exposed, they’ll be slimy. Use extreme caution while walking out in rocky areas; falling from or onto these rocks can cause cuts and broken bones. And note that it’s best to arrive as the tide is going out, this way you don’t get trapped on a high spot as the tide comes in and surrounds you, making a rescue necessary.
Remember that Nesko Women’s Club hosts a book and bake fundraiser on the 4th of July. The showstopper is planned from 8 a.m. until noon on the lawn in front of Neskowin Trading Company. Besides many baked goods and hundreds of books at bargain prices, they’ll raffle off a large quilt and a lovely glass float. There will we activities for the children too- face painting and a children’s table. Don’t miss it.
A longer and improved fireworks display is planned for dusk in Pacific City on the 4th of July.
