The Salty Strings Ukulele Group of Rockaway Beach is filling up their Christmas Season calendar. I will keep you informed, as our gigs get closer. But, for now, we are busy practicing our Christmas ukulele music. We are not professionals, but we sure are having fun! Just friends that get together every Wednesday night at our City Hall at 6 p.m. and play music we love. I am so excited. I think the rest if the group is too. Steve Tackett and I have chosen lots of new holiday music. Hopefully you will be pleased with the result.
You have quite a few more opportunities to see the Riverbend Players perform the comedy, Moon Over Buffalo. There will be performances at 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 and 9 and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 10th. This event is at the NCRD Performing Arts Center at 36155 9 St. Nehalem. You can buy tickets at the door, $17 or buy them online for three dollars less at www.tickettomato.com. Maybe I will see you there!
The Rockaway Beach Library is looking for donations of gently used mystery fiction and, even better, children’s books. The library can build up their stock of books for fundraising. Whenever they have a fundraiser, the money helps to pay the bills and keep our library going. They are open six days a week and that is thanks to you for helping them out!
Every Tuesday at 3 p.m., the Rockaway library has story time for kids! There will be silly songs or fun stories with Mathew. Then your kids will have an opportunity to check out books with the “family library card.” Let’s teach them the love of reading. It will be a lifelong gift.
The Lions Club of Rockaway Beach invites you to their Veteran’s Spaghetti Dinner for Tillamook County residents on Nov. 10 from 1-5 p.m.. All of our veterans will enjoy a free meal. All the rest of us will pay by donation. You will enjoy spaghetti, salad and desserts. The Lions Club is easy to find. It is at 286 South Anchor Street, which is right behind our city hall. What a great way to honor our veterans!
The Lions Club Thanksgiving and Christmas Gift Baskets would love your donations. Drop off food or toys at the clubhouse, or find your nearest Lion. You can contact Ron Hemberry about your donations too. He can help you too. The Lions are in need of food or toys for kids of all ages, including teenagers. When you are purchasing your Christmas gifts, why not buy an extra and donate to these holiday baskets!
Do you know of anyone that could use a little extra help for Thanksgiving or Christmas? You can find applications for the Lions baskets at schools, city halls and post offices from Garibaldi to Manzanita. Pick one up, and read the requirements. The holidays come quickly, and they need the applications asap.
The Rockaway Beach Library is also having their holiday table filled with wonderful gifts to give to friends and family members. It is such a great time to teach your children about the gift of giving. The Holiday Table Sale begins on Nov. 29 through Christmas. They are open 12-5 on weekdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays. Many thanks to the folks behind this sale. Many thanks to Linda Olson, Marilyn Romine and Pat O. You guys are awesome! I will update you as we get closer to the holiday season.
Do you have broken items you need to fix? The Repairmook Repair Cafe is an evening where you can spend time in our community repairing items such as lamps, jewelry, clothing, vacuum cleaners, power tools and kitchen appliances and more. (No internal combustion engines as this event is indoors.) There are two chances to join these folks every month. The locations are the Bay City Arts Center at 5680 A St in Bay City on the third Thursday of each month from 6-8 p.m. and the White Clover Granger at 36590 HIghway 53 in Nehalem on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m.. Mark these dates on your calendar, I will try to remind you too.
“You know all those things you’ve always wanted to do? You should go do them.” Enjoy every moment of your life. I sure try to. That’s Rockaway Beach “Sugar Coated!”
