Wow! I had a great find at a garage sale recently. They were selling a low G tenor Outdoor Ukulele for almost half price. I love it. It will be a perfect travel ukulele and it sounds awesome. It is plastic, so could be used as a paddle too! (Giggle.) What a treasure. I love a good garage sale!
The Summer Youth Program with the Rockaway Beach Parks and Recreation will be running through August 24th for all school-aged children. They have over 40 youths signed up and of course will welcome more. Drop by our city hall to sign your kids up.
Each Wednesday, the Parks and Rec Summer Program swim at NCRD. Field trips are on Thursday. Best of all, this summer program is completely free because of a donation. A few weeks ago the kids went on a field trip to Pump It Up in Beaverton, where they enjoyed jumping, running around and the disco/glow in the dark lighting, especially down the big inflatable slides. After all that fun, they enjoyed pizza for lunch.
Not only is there a weekday program daily, but also each Friday night there is a Community Beach Fire, unless there is a burn ban. They welcome all to this event. It is on the beach just below the Wayside. Benny and the Bay City Rockers will be performing for them. They are awesome.
The Rockaway Beach Arts Fair and Kite Festival is coming up soon. This year it is on August 2nd - 4th. Be sure to mark these dates on your calendar.
A little birdie mentioned that I forgot to wish a Happy birthday to Harold Brecht. So, Happy Birthday!! Stop by at the Old Oregon Smokehouse to wish him a glorious day.
Have some summer fun with the Salty Strings Ukulele Group! Whether you play or not, drop by and listen, sing or play another instrument with us! It’s fun! We meet up at the City Hall each Wednesday from 6-7:30pm.
This should be a fun event! There is a Roller Derby bout on Saturday, July 27th at 6pm with the Tillamook Coast Derby Dames vs. Southern Oregon Derby in Tillamook. I had someone remind me to mention that the Lions Club has Bingo each Friday and Saturday evening from 6-10 pm. The Lions Club is the building right behind our City Hall. Locals and visitors are welcome. What a great way to make new friends in our active little beach town.
This is a good time to check on our elderly neighbors. What a great time to maybe spruce up their yard or pick up some groceries for them. It will brighten their day, but more importantly, brighten yours.
