Garibaldi Days is this weekend - Thursday the vendors will be setting up and will be open for business Friday through Sunday.

The Garibaldi Museum is holding the annual Wine tasting and Silent Auction Preview Friday the 26th at the Museum from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.  The Auction will continue Saturday with free admission from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm when you will find out after 4:00 pm who was the successful bidder. There are lots of gift certificates and goodies galore!! And please take advantage of the free admission to take your family to this jewel of a museum. I’m amazed at how many people who live here have never checked it out.

Free concerts at the tent down off Jerry Creasy Way by the Old Mill Friday and Saturday night with a beer garden and food vendors. Friday night concert is country/bluegrass group Severin Sisters and Saturday night features a Motley Crüe and Def Leppard tribute band. There will be live music both nights at the Ghost Hole Public House, Parkside Lounge, and Kelley’s Place as well.

Pier’s End Boathouse will conduct tours Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4:00 pm.

Oregon Coast Scenic Railway train will run every day at 10:00 am, noon, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

The parade will start at 11:00 am with Grand Marshall Norma Johansen, our favorite librarian.

There will be kids activities in Lumbermans Park: a Touch tank sponsored by ODFW, Reptile Man with two shows (one is hands on!), and a new activity, Kid Zone, sponsored by TLC/Fibre Federal Credit Union.

The US Coast Guard versus our volunteer Fire Dept with Waterball Tug-of-War Saturday and Softball on Sunday.m

Then we always end Saturday with a fireworks display sponsored by the Ghost Hole Public House. Frosting on the cake.

We’d love to see you in Garibaldi this weekend!

And Joanne Smith is organizing a cleanup Monday, July 29. Please meet us behind City Hall at 8:00 am. You can’t have a party without a cleanup!

My husband and I each spent six hours on Highway 101 picking up our section south of town. In that six hours, we only got about half a mile and collected 11 bags of trash, which seems excessive as we were just out there about 6 weeks ago. I remember the saying “Give a hoot, don’t pollute.”  I like Texas’ litter campaign slogan: “Don’t mess with Texas!” Sadly, the people it applies to don’t care or they wouldn’t be tossing trash out their windows in the first place.

And speaking of respect: first of all, illegal fireworks are just that - illegal in this state. But shooting them off after dark in your neighborhood is just disrespectful. Don’t get me wrong - I love a good fireworks display. But there are PTSD survivors, veterans and our animals who don’t do well with them. Planned displays are one thing, and we all know when the 4th of July occurs, but random explosions disrupting neighbors when ever you feel like it is just not cool.

Enough said! Enjoy your weekend and be safe out there!.
