He was described as a leader in the local food movement, an amazing chef, and above all else, a generous-hearted community member.

Sadly, Tom Flood Jr., owner/chef of The Schooner Restaurant and Lounge in Netarts, passed away suddenly on Jan. 3.

“He was a pioneer in fresh, local and seasonal menus, showcasing the meat, fish, produce and brews of Oregon’s north coast,” Visit Tillamook Coast wrote in a tribute to Flood. “He also raised thousands of dollars every year for local food banks during his popular Thanksgiving dinner event.”

Flood’s Thanksgiving dinners hosted at the Schooner each year are open to everybody and is completely donation-based. For those unable to pay, the dinner is completely free and nobody is turned away. Each year, the event raised tens of thousands of dollars for Oregon Food Bank – Tillamook County Services.

“Tommy was a dear friend to many, and an amazing community partner who always stepped up to help with countless events by bringing his culinary expertise and friendly personality,” The Tillamook Area Chamber of Commerce wrote.

Flood was also a member of the Tourism Promotion Advisory Committee and a member of the Tillamook Coast Visitors Association board.

Service plans are pending.
